One man’s experience. The catalyst for a new service.
When Geoffrey Barber got in his car to go home after work at his Maidenhead commercial property company in January 2001, he didn’t realise he was beginning a life changing journey. His car aquaplaned resulting in him crashing into a tree at 75 miles per hour, writing off the car and sustaining 20 bone fractures. He spent over a year in bed and faced the realistic likelihood of having a leg amputated. He was astonished, however to have made a full recovery, and was so grateful to have escaped from the accident alive, he was determined to put back into society as a means of thanks for his survival.
After forming The Return Foundation he searched for a project where he could offer his professional skills as an experienced chartered surveyor, as well as the funding. It soon became very apparent that there was a far greater demand for good and reliable property advice than merely for money.
He accordingly approached RICS and they welcomed his proposal to fund a dedicated service facility specifically designed to assist any charity needing professional property advice – and Charity Property Help was born.
